FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Monday, May 26, 2014

Langley, BC – Langley Community Music School (LCMS) school year is wrapping up with it’s Year-End Student Showcase on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. The concert includes a special presentation of Carnival of the Animals, and features award winning senior students, ensembles and alumni, including past and present winners of the Sharon Stevenson Career Development Scholarship.

The school recently awarded the 2014 Sharon Stevenson Scholarship a combined total $12,000 in scholarships to two young musicians in support of their continued musicarts education. Langley resident Stephen Duncan, piano/voice, and Paul Williamson, piano/cello of Mission were each awarded $6,000 towards the cost of their university education.

“LCMS is grateful for the support afforded to our talented young artists,” says Magnusson. “We extend our deepest thanks to the Stevenson family for their generosity of this amazing scholarship program – and a huge congratulations to Paul and Stephen for their outstanding musicianship. We’re thrilled these students, and past winners will join us for our year-end concert in celebration of a great year of music at the school.”

“Our annual Showcase concert is a true highlight of the year, featuring performances from our scholarship winners, graduating students and senior ensembles,” says LCMS principal Susan Magnusson. “I invite the community to join us in celebrating the success of these exceptional young musicians.”

Additional concert highlights include the 2013 Sharon Stevenson Scholarship winner Ben Su, piano, and Sunny Chan, violin, who won the award in 2011. Sarah Yang, violin, this year’s winner of LCMS’ Concerto Competition, will also perform.

Admission to the concert is free.
