Canada’s National Treasure, the Vancouver Chamber Choir, to Perform with the Bergmann Duo at Upcoming Langley Concert
The Langley Community Music School (LCMS) is proud to present the internationally-renowned Vancouver Chamber Choir performing the masterworks of Brahms with the Bergmann Duo at an upcoming Rose Gellert Concert at 7:30 pm on Saturday evening, February 18, 2017. This all-Brahms concert will feature such beloved works as the deeply personal Five Songs Opus 104, his masterwork Ein Deutsches Requiem, and a selection of some of his most well known four-hand pieces, the Hungarian Dances.
The Vancouver Chamber Choir, an outstanding professional vocal ensemble, is recognized as one of Canada’s national treasures and is noted for its diverse repertoire and performing excellence. Heralded as “…one of the finest ensembles in the world” by Atlanta’s Chorus! Magazine, “the Vancouver Chamber Choir has no rivals,” as the Halifax Chronicle Herald asserts. The North Shore News calls their “unearthly beauty and awe-inspiring power … a pretty fine mortal approximation of how celestial singers should sound.”
Formed in 1971 by conductor Jon Washburn, a member of the Order of Canada and recipient of the Queen Elizabeth’s Golden Jubilee Medal, the award-winning Vancouver Chamber Choir performs across Canada and throughout the world. In addition to countless performances, broadcasts and awards, the choir has completed 32 recordings and premiered more than 250 Canadian choral compositions. In addition to their notoriety as performers, the Vancouver Chamber Choir also has numerous award-winning educational programs to their credit, including the National Conductors’ Symposium for advanced choral conductors and Interplay interactive workshops for choral composers. The choir will be performing with the Bergmann Duo, pianists Marcel and Elizabeth Bergmann. Described as artists who present “razzle dazzle” and “electrifyingly rendered” recitals, according to The Vancouver Sun, the Bergmann Duo have touched and inspired audiences with their uniquely eclectic programs for more than two decades. As international prize-winners, including the Dranoff International Two Piano Competition and Provincia di Caltanisetta International Chamber Music Competition, they have performed in recital and with orchestras across North America and Europe, including recent appearances in Munich and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. Marcel and Elizabeth Bergmann are Directors at the Langley Community Music School. Learn more at bergmannduo.com.
“It has been fantastic to work with the Vancouver Chamber Choir to prepare this programme and we are very excited about our performance in Langley,” says LCMS artistic director, Elizabeth Bergmann. “The programme will show the full range of Brahms’ artistic powers, from Hungarian fireworks, to introspection and majesty. The performance of the Requiem will be with piano four-hands accompaniment. We have taken the orchestral score and Brahms’ own version for piano duet, and somewhat amalgamated them to make it our own. It will be a wonderfully intimate musical experience.”
Tickets are $25 for adults, $22 for seniors, $16 for students, and $10 for LCMS students. Call the box office at 604-534-2848 or visit langleymusic.com purchase tickets. The Rose Gellert Hall is located at 4899 207 Street, Langley, BC.
