Free Children’s Concert at Upcoming Langley Community Music School Open House
Langley Community Music School (LCMS) is thrilled to offer their third free children’s concert this year, “A Young Person’s Guide to the String Quartet,” at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 6, 2017, as part of the school’s annual Spring Community Day Open House. Featuring LCMS ensemble in residence, the Rose Gellert String Quartet (RGSQ), this special concert will also include a performance by the Blacklock Fine Arts Dance Company (students from Blacklock Elementary School) and surprise guest-puppet “Gertie.” The Open House runs from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and everyone in the community is invited to attend.
The featured children’s concert takes the audience on a tour of string quartet music. “The Blacklock students introduce the characters of each role through movement and dance,” says Peter Ing, member of the Rose Gellert String Quartet. “Starting with the opening theme of Haydn’s “Joke” Quartet, we take the audience on a musical journey through different eras.”
“The RGSQ is excited to have developed this presentation as a way of introducing young audience members to the range and history of the string quartet,” continues Ing. “It’s been great to work with the Blacklock dance students to help bring the works to life. This special concert is going to be a lot of fun.”
The Open House is a great opportunity to tour the facility, meet the teachers, learn about classes, and try out a variety of instruments. Langley Community Music School is world-renowned for their top caliber music programs for children and adults, ranging from early learning and traditional classical instruments to general music programs, jazz and popular music. The school’s Rose Gellert Hall is also an important cultural venue for the community, attracting professional performers from across the globe. A non-profit school and registered charity, the school is grateful for the support it receives from the community. As part of this special day, the school will be holding a fundraising plant sale, with proceeds going to the support of LCMS programs.
“With some of the most talented and highly qualified faculty in the country, LCMS offers great learning experiences for all ages and ambitions,” says LCMS principal Susan Magnusson. “We invite everyone in the community to come to our Open House and discover this treasured community resource.”
Langley Community Music School will be accepting registrations for the Fall 2017 semester during the open house event. Summer Camps are also available. As space is limited in these programs, LCMS encourages people to register as soon as possible. No registration is necessary to attend the Open House and featured concert. Langley Community Music School is located at 4899 207 Street, Langley, BC.
