British Cellist joins Canadian Pianist at Langley’s Concerts Café Classico
Langley Community Music School (LCMS) welcomes world-renowned British cellist, Michael Kevin Jones, to perform with Victoria’s own internationally celebrated pianist, Bruce Vogt, at the Concerts Café Classico event on Sunday, April 29, 2018, at 2:30 pm in Rose Gellert Hall.
The event begins with a pre-concert conversation, hosted by LCMS artistic director Elizabeth Bergmann, where the audience will learn more about these amazing musicians and how they came to perform together. Following a short break with coffee and refreshments, Jones and Vogt will perform some of the most beloved works of Bach, Brahms, Liszt, Rachmaninoff, and Goens, plus a more contemporary work, Joachin Rodrigo’s Como una fantasia, from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm.
Selected to play for the Royal family as a student at the Royal College of Music in London, British cellist Michael Kevin Jones’ career has soared ever since. He quickly became a solo cellist and has toured the world with top musical groups. His soloist recording of the complete Bach suites on a 1667 Stradivarius cello for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York has received international critical acclaim and several audio awards. Jones’ work has also earned him the Top 10 spot for his CD recording “Original Music for Cello and Guitar,” performed as part of The Jones-Maruri Cello Guitar Duo. Reviews attest his music is a “must-have version no matter how many other recordings you have of Bach’s immortal work.” Also a pianist, Jones has gained notoriety for his non-conventional career, incorporating multiple musical activities. Jones is also a teacher and continues to tour the world, performing in South Africa, Canada, Europe, Hong Kong and China. Visit cellojones.com
Pianist Bruce Vogt is an internationally celebrated musician and recording artist. A global performer and current Professor, Head of Piano, at the University of Victoria’s school of Music, Vogt’s talents have been celebrated as “technical perfection paired with emotional expressiveness” in Germany, “rare grandeur” in London, and “a virtuoso” in Paris. Equally revered as a teacher, Vogt’s students cite his unique instruction as going “far beyond the instrument itself to permeate one’s entire life and thought.” Learn more about Bruce Vogt at: brucevogt.com
