Romance and Rhythm
Clarinetist Michelle Anderson, cellist Heather Hay, and pianist Rosemary O’Connor will feature the romanticism of Frühling, the cinematic lyricism of Rota, and sultry Piazzolla.
The concert will open with an informal conversation between LCMS’ Artistic Director Elizabeth Bergmann and the artists, followed by complimentary coffee, tea and refreshments before the performance. The performance will take place in the Rose Gellert Hall and will last approximately 60 minutes, with no intermission.

About Trio Harmonie
Since 2017, Trio Harmonie has been sharing music with audiences in innovative and intimate performances. Based in Vancouver, BC, this dynamic ensemble, comprising pianist Rosemary O’Connor, cellist Heather Hay, and clarinetist Michelle Anderson crafts chamber music experiences that highlight personal connection, musical storytelling, and a shared joy in making music together. With a repertoire that spans classical masterworks, hidden gems, and contemporary voices, Trio Harmonie brings a fresh and engaging perspective to their concerts, inviting audiences to connect with the music on many levels.
Pianist Rosemary O’Connor is a highly regarded chamber musician and educator who regularly collaborates with members of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and Vancouver Opera. She performs with and co-produces the Quiring Chamber Players at the Evergreen Cultural Centre, and has appeared at numerous festivals and venues across North America and Europe including Music by the Sea (Victoria, BC), Chintimini Festival (Oregon), and Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall. Rosemary is on faculty at the VSO School of Music, maintains a private studio in Coquitlam, and serves as Director of the Quiring Chamber Music Camp. She has studied with esteemed pianists such as John Perry and Vitaly Margulis.
For cellist Heather Hay, chamber music is one of the most enjoyable ways to make music. A former member of the Purcell String Quartet, Heather has recorded for Radio France and toured internationally. She is Assistant Principal Cellist of the Vancouver Opera Orchestra and has been a frequent guest with local ensembles such as Turning Point Ensemble and Vancouver New Music. Heather taught at Capilano University for over 25 years and is an active music educator for all ages, passionate about empowering people through music and creative expression.
Clarinetist Michelle Anderson is a versatile performer and international educator who is deeply committed to helping others discover the joy of clarinet playing. She has performed with ensembles including the Vancouver Opera Orchestra, Turning Point Ensemble, Lionsgate Sinfonia and Pacific Symphonic Wind Ensemble. She teaches clarinet at the University of British Columbia. As founder of Clarinet Mentors, Michelle supports clarinetists worldwide through her educational videos, courses, and publications, including Do It Yourself Clarinet (Hal Leonard). She has been a guest artist and teacher at major festivals across North America and Europe.
At the heart of Trio Harmonie is a spirit of friendship and musical kinship. Their performances reflect not only technical mastery and artistic sensitivity, but a genuine joy in sharing music with one another and with their audience. Whether performing in concert halls, community venues, or educational settings, Trio Harmonie seeks to build bridges through music and create meaningful moments of harmony.
About Heather Hay, cello
For cellist Heather Hay (M.Mus., San Francisco Conservatory of Music, 1984) chamber music is one of the most enjoyable ways to make music. Guest appearances for Hay include California’s Chamber Music West and Cabrillo Music Festivals, as well as the Pacific Rim and Hornby Festivals in British Columbia. In 1989, it was chamber music that brought Hay to Vancouver to join the Purcell String Quartet. With the Quartet, Hay recorded and performed for Radio France in Paris, and toured in Europe and throughout B.C.
Hay has played an active part in Vancouver’s music scene; she is currently Assistant Principal Cellist with the Vancouver Opera Orchestra, and was a member of the CBC Radio Orchestra. She has been an invited guest with the West Coast Chamber Music Concerts, Turning Point Ensemble and for Vancouver New Music. Hay has also been frequently heard on CBC Radio Two’s regional programme, Westcoast Performance, and continues to enjoy playing and performing in a variety of chamber music ensembles, including the Lincoln House Piano Trio.
Teaching is an important part of Hay’s musical life; she is on the faculty at Capilano University, as well as at Saint James Music Academy, and maintains a private studio of young and not so young students! Hay is also a regular faculty member at the West Coast Amateur Musicians’ Society Summer Music Camp, championing music education for all ages. Hay has a keen interest in encouraging music making for everyone, and leads workshops internationally on the importance of music in the world.
Hay studied at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music with Bonnie Hampton, completing her Master’s of Music as Ms. Hampton’s assistant. She also studied at Queen’s University and the Banff School of Fine Arts, working with Janos Starker, Zara Nelsova, Aldo Parisot and William Pleeth.
About Rosemary O’Connor, piano
Pianist Rosemary O’Connor lives near Vancouver Canada where she performs regularly with various chamber ensembles including the Quiring Chamber Players and Davidsbündler Duo with her husband, violist Reg Quiring. Locally she has been invited to collaborate with Pro Nova Ensemble, Trio Accord and Standing Wave Ensemble. Rosemary co-produces and performs regularly at the Evergreen Cultural Centre’s Chamber Music Series as a member of the Quiring Chamber Players, joined by guest artists such as Ian Swensen, Anita Krause, Dale Barlthrop, Francois Houle, Andrew Dawes, Catherine French, members of the St. Lawrence Quartet, Vancouver Symphony and Borealis Quartet.
Rosemary’s CD recording (ORF label) of Austrian composer Richard Stoehr’s piano music was featured on CBC Radio’s Espace Musique with Alain Lefevre as well as CFRO’s West Coast Classics, and on ORF Radio in Vienna. She has also produced a CD of viola and piano works as a member of Davidsbündler Duo.
Rosemary has performed solo and chamber music concerts in the US, Canada, Germany, Lithuania, Brussels, Portugal and Italy. Her concerto appearances have elicited reviews such as “ Pianist defines Beethoven” in her performance of Beethoven’s 4th Concerto (Redlands Symphony) and “She brought audible reactions and a standing ovation with the energy of her performance” in Mozart’s Concerto K. 482 with original cadenzas (San Bernardino Symphony). Other concerts include Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall in New York, Music at the Vineyards in Napa Valley, Pender Harbor Festival BC, Chintimini Chamber Music Festival in Oregon, Sundays at 4 from the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (live radio broadcast), Midi de Minimes festival in Brussels, and the Elora Festival in Ontario.
Rosemary’s love for teaching is inspired by her wonderfully varied mentors who include John Perry (University of Southern California, Los Angeles), Nelita True (Eastman School of Music Rochester New York), Robert Levin (Musikhochschule Freiburg, Germany), Tibor Szasz (Musikhochschule Freiburg) and Vitaly Margulis (University of California, Los Angeles). She held teaching Assistantships at Eastman School and UCLA, and has taught on the faculties at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles and Pasadena Conservatory of Music. Rosemary currently teaches at the Quiring Chamber Music School in Coquitlam, BC. and the VSO School of Music in Vancouver. She is also currently the director of the Quiring Chamber Music Camp in Vancouver.
About Michelle Anderson, clarinet
Michelle Anderson is a clarinetist and teacher who lives in Vancouver BC. She has been a professional performer and teacher for over 30 years and plays regularly with the Vancouver Opera Orchestra, Lionsgate Sinfonia, and the Pacific Symphonic Wind Ensemble. She has studied the clarinet at University of Toronto, and several summers at the Aspen Music School.
Michelle performs chamber music regularly as a featured performance with West Coast Chamber Music, as well as with the Harmonie Trio with Heather Hay and Rosemary O’Connor. Her groups often perform as part of the Silk Purse concert series and at the Gordon Smith Gallery.
Michelle is the Founder of Clarinet Mentors, the largest online clarinet teaching resource in the world. Her YouTube channel is viewed by thousands of people every day. Her specialty is collecting and sharing techniques that make clarinet more understandable and approachable for clarinetists worldwide. Her YouTube videos cover many of the important fundamental skills required to play the clarinet more easily. Her online courses give clarinetists all of the tools they need to master particular areas of performance through downloadable video lessons, repertoire and worksheets.
Michelle has been a featured masterclass leader and lecturer at International Clarinet Association Conferences, the Backun International Clarinet Competition and at the Clarinet Celebration with Chamber Music Northwest. She was the featured clarinet soloist with the Pacific Symphonic Wind Ensemble at the World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles in 2015. She was a founding member of the Aspen Wind Players, which was the first student wind quintet offered a winter residency in Aspen Colorado. She has led educational presentations at UBC WindFest as well as Kwantlen Day of Woodwinds.
Michelle is in high demand as a clarinet teacher and has become a specialist at creating amateur adult clarinet programs for international clarinet events. Michelle is a Backun Musical Services Artist.
