Alina Nicolenco
Alina started violin at the age of 5 and is currently studying with Karina Slupski. She has been a soloist with the Vancouver Island Symphony, the Fraser Valley Symphony and is the concert master of the LCMS Senior Orchestra and Abbotsford Youth Orchestra. In 2025, she attended the Royal Concertgebouw Young program in Amsterdam and performed at the Elbphilharmonie in Germany. Alina is looking forward to being part of the European Youth Orchestra Academy this year and growing as a chamber musician under the mentorship of the Rose Gellert String Quartet.
Elise Nicolenco
Elise has been playing the violin for 10 years and is currently studying with Karina Slupski. She has been part of the Kessler Academy chamber orchestra and is the principal second for the LCMS Senior Orchestra and the Abbotsford Youth Orchestra. In the past, Elise has won first place in the solo category at the BC Provincial Music Festival and second place with the Nicolenco Trio chamber group in 2025. She is grateful to be mentored by the Rose Gellert String Quartet and is excited to perform the Brahms sextet together.
Lukas Nicolenco
Lukas is a 12 year old cellist studying with Joel Stobbe. He serves as the principal cellist for the LCMS Senior Orchestra as well as the Abbotsford Youth Orchestra. In 2025, he was the runner-up in the BC Provincial Music Festival in his category. He chose to play the cello because it’s bigger than his older sisters’ violins and fell in love with it. One of his dreams is to tour the world with his cello some day.
Rose Gellert String Quartet: Profile + Individual Bios
Rose Gellert String Quartet is the ensemble in residence at LCMS, performing regularly for the school’s concert series, heading up and coaching for several chamber music programs, and providing instruction for music students. Outside LCMS, the quartet performs for various concert series throughout the Fraser Valley. Will Chen and Llowyn Ball (violin), and Ben Goheen (cello) are all active musicians, teachers, and music coaches who, through their LCMS residency, enjoy fulfilling their mandate to create and foster community and a deeper appreciation of music, providing outreach concerts at local schools and bringing live music to seniors’ homes where residents might otherwise go without the joy of live music.
