Drumbeats Resonate at upcoming Langley Community Music School’s Family Night
Langley Community Music School (LCMS) is inviting everyone in the community to attend its annual Family Intro to Music Night on Tuesday March 20, 2018, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in Rose Gellert Hall. The evening’s highlight will be a free Children’s Concert featuring the extraordinary percussionist Bruce Henczel.
Start the evening with a hands-on tour of a variety of instruments, listen to student demonstrations, meet the teachers, and learn more about our diverse music programs for students of all ages, including classical, popular, and a new vocal course for teens and adults. Then get ready for heart-pounding rhythm as percussionist Bruce Henczel begins his concert at 7:00 pm. Showcasing a range of percussion instruments, Bruce will perform an exciting and interactive program with rhythms from around the world — from African hand drums to Spanish flamenco on the marimba.
Drummer and soloist Bruce Henczel is also a composer, chamber artist, clinician, and teacher with a Master of Music in Percussion Performance from the University of British Columbia. With two acclaimed recordings and internationally-distributed print music, Bruce was chosen to represent Canada with an original composition for the 2016 International Handbell Symposium. Bruce has performed as the concerto soloist with the Vancouver Philharmonic, the West Coast Symphony, Okanagan Symphony Orchestra, and the Kwantlen University Wind Symphony and Chorus. He performs regularly with the Vancouver Chinese Music Ensemble, and has performed with Winter Harp, Plastic Acid, and Symphony of the West. Learn more at brucehenczel.ca.
“The Family Intro to Music Night is one of our most exciting nights of the year,” says LCMS principal Susan Magnusson. “It’s always special to see the excitement of children as they try instruments for the first time. We invite families to enjoy a fun, interactive, informative and entertaining musical evening. Bruce Henzcel’s performance is not to be missed!”
This concert is the second in a series of free children’s concerts brought to you this year by the Langley Community Music School, with the third in the series, featuring the Rose Gellert String Quartet & Guests on Saturday, May 5, 2018.
The Rose Gellert Hall is located at 4899 207 Street, Langley, BC. For more information call 604-534-2848 or visit langleymusic.com.
