A graduate of the Royal Academy of Music in London, England, Miya Otake is an active harpist contributing her talent in both performing and teaching. At age of seven, she began to play the harp in Japan. In 1983, she immigrated to Canada and continued her musical studies at the Vancouver Academy of Music and the Victoria Conservatory of Music with scholarships. She has won many awards and appeared in numerous recitals and TV programs, studying under Take Kling who is a former professor at the University of Victoria.
In 1997, upon completing her post-graduate studies: Performance course at the Royal Academy of Music in England, she pursued her studies further in Nice, France. Her teachers include Elisabeth Fontan-Bonoche, Marisa Robles, Daphne Boden, Skaila Kanga, and Taka Kling and she has taken masterclasses with Lynne Palmer, Hugh Webb, and Catherine Michel. She has performed in Canada, USA, Europe, and Japan. Some of her notable performances include the recital at the Canadian Embassy in Tokyo and Carnegie Hall in New York. Currently, she is teaching harp at the Langley Community Music School and is a member of the B.C. Registered Music Teacher’s Association.
