Internationally-celebrated Quartet opens Rose Gellert Hall Concert Season at Langley Community Music School
Evenings just got better. Immerse yourself in the soul inspiring sounds of Langley Community Music School’s (LCMS) Rose Gellert Hall nighttime concert series. The season opens Friday evening, October 17, 2014, at 7:30 pm, with one of the most in-demand string quartets in the world: The Dover Quartet.
From New York to London to Langley, the Dover Quartet will treat audiences to a performance of Beethoven’s Quartet in A Major, Op. 18, No. 5; Shostakovich’s Quartet No. 7; and Dvorak’s Quartet in C Major, Op. 61.
Heralded for its “sublime playing” by the New York Times, the award-winning Dover Quartet performs at hundreds of concerts annually throughout the United States, Canada, South America, and Europe. “We are very fortunate to have the Dover Quartet come to Langley Community Music School as part of their winner’s tour to BC,” says LCMS artistic director of concerts Elizabeth Bergmann. “They represent the pinnacle of musical achievement for young performers.”
The Dover Quartet recently won the grand prize in the Banff International String Quartet Competition at The Banff Centre. “In a competition that was remarkable for the very high standard of performances, the Dover Quartet consistently demonstrated an exceptional level of maturity, poise and artistry,” said Barry Shiffman, Executive Director of the Banff International String Quartet Competition.
The Dover Quartet says that they are really looking forward to connecting with audiences in Langley. “With Langley’s history of trade and blending cultures, what better place to go and spread love and appreciation for art from all over the world.”
The group adds, “The string quartet is one of the most special forms of music making for so many reasons. Not only are four voices in perfect harmony, but having all four voices in one instrumental family creates an opportunity for the most breathtaking blending of sounds.”
The Dover Quartet members are violinists Joel Link and Bryan Lee, violist Milena Pajaro-van de Stadt, and cellist Camden Shaw. To learn more about the Dover Quartet, visit www.doverquartet.com.
The Langley Community Music School hosts multiple musical concerts from October to May, including the Rose Gellert Hall Series, an evening concert series featuring renowned Canadian and international musicians, as well as the Concerts Café Classico Series, an afternoon concert series featuring stellar local and touring musicians playing classical, jazz or contemporary works.
Tickets for the Rose Gellert Concert event are $22 for adults, $20 for seniors, $16 for students, and $10 for LCMS students. Enjoy all four concerts in the 2014-2015 season and save 15% off regular ticket prices with a subscription.
