LCMS Resident Composer, Marcel Bergmann, will be sharing his thoughts on inspiration, creativity and his various approaches to composing. He will talk about some of his main artistic and musical influences, as well as the importance of improvisation as part of his compositional process.

This session is the fourth of a four-part online series featuring composers working in different genres.

About Marcel Bergmann

Marcel Bergmann

For the last 25 years, Marcel has enjoyed an active musical career as a performer, composer, improviser and teacher. Marcel has written numerous works for two pianos, film, theatre and cabaret productions, as well as choral and chamber music. The BavarianTelevision, Arte and other European broadcasting corporations, have broadcast his music for television features. He has been commissioned by various organizations including the CBC, the Murray Dranoff International Two Piano Foundation, the Land’s End Chamber Ensemble, the Spiritus Chamber Choir, the San Francisco International Music Festival, the Langley Community Music School and the VSO School of Music.

Marcel’s large-scale work, Requiem for a Lost Girl (an oratorio on homelessness) was presented as part of the New York Music Theatre Festival in July 2012 as well as at Vancouver Opera’s 2018 Festival. Marcel is an Associate Composer of the Canadian Music Centre.
