Chamber Music

The wonderful repertoire, intense listening and close teamwork involved in playing chamber music make it a rewarding pursuit for any musician.  Various instruments are grouped together to form ensembles.

Cello chamber music students also have the opportunity to be invited to join the LCMS Cello Ensemble.
Note: An audition is required for students not studying their chamber music instrument at LCMS.

LCMS Fiddlers

The LCMS Fiddlers meet each Wednesday evening to prepare lively programs for various community events throughout the year. Fiddlers from the community are welcome to join the ensemble and learn Celtic, traditional and western styles of fiddling. Parent volunteers are required to support the activities for the Fiddlers. Auditions may be required to determine placement in the appropriate level.

Flute Ensemble

The Flute Ensemble is designed to provide intermediate and advanced level students enrolled in private lessons at LCMS an opportunity to rehearse and perform a wide variety of chamber repertoire for the flute. Limited enrollment may be available by audition to students not participating in private lessons at LCMS.

String Ensemble & Orchestras

Students can develop their skills by learning the basics of ensemble music, the discipline of playing in a section and the requirements of following a conductor. Students from string programs outside of the school are welcome to register and are required to audition to determine placement in the appropriate level. Students who are studying symphonic Woodwind and Brass instruments at advanced & senior levels may audition for orchestra.

Violin Technique Classes

These classes help to build knowledge and proficiency with

fundamentals of technique (scales, arpeggios, varied bowing styles and rhythmic patterns).  Classes are designed for intermediate to advanced and senior level students.

Pre-requisite to Level 1: good shifting mechanics and the ability to play 2 octave scales in all keys (major & relative minor), completion of Suzuki Book 4 or RCM Grade 5.

Violin Technique

These classes provide an introduction to 3 8ve scales, double stops, and various bowing styles. They also cover ear training and prepare performance pieces for LCMS concerts. In general, students will spend a minimum of two years progressing through the Intermediate and Advanced technique levels.

LCMS Violin Consort (Senior)

Students develop technique and prepare works for LCMS and community performances. The class will cover the circle of keys, Flesch sequence of scales, arpeggios, inversions, diminished, dominant sevenths, chromatics, scales in 3rds/ 6ths/8ves, harmonics, left hand pizzicato, plus advanced bowing styles and rhythmic patterns.

LCMS Cellorama

Intermediate level students build group playing skills and develop their technique in preparation for RCM exams.  This groups also prepares works for performance at LCMS and community concerts.

Suzuki Performance Groups

Suzuki violin students participate in weekly performance classes at their level.  The Level 3+ group incorporates violin technique in preparation for RCM exams.  Suzuki cello students participate in a weekly cello performance class.

Choral Singing – Beginner

School Grades 2-4
The beginner class introduces children to the art of choral group singing. Students experience and practice matching pitch, breath, diction, posture, tone and musical expression. Students work through warm-ups (vocal and physical), singing games, partner songs, and canons, with the goal of producing a pleasing choral tone. Most repertoire studied in this class is in unison, with the introduction of partner songs. Along with these topics, reading choral music from the score will also be introduced. Students perform at LCMS Winter and Spring events.

Jazz Ensemble

Students are coached by a group of expert faculty and invited to rehearse on a regular basis. The ensembles are also provided

Percussion Ensemble

This fun, dynamic, and educational class features drumming and percussion styles from around the world. Participants will learn a variety of styles and rhythms such as Brazilian Samba, Salsa patterns from Cuba and Puerto Rico, and West African drumming.

NEW: Bluegrass Guitar Ensemble

This acoustic ensemble meets weekly to play bluegrass and folk music as a group. Jam with guitar faculty and work towards performances scheduled during the year. Students require a basic knowledge of open chords and the abiltiy to read notation or a tab. A Grade 3 standard is recommended before entering.
