NIKITA POGREBNOY, violist and violinist, was born in St. Petersburg, Russia where he graduated from the world-famous St. Petersburg Conservatory with highest honours. He was initially admitted as a young violin prodigy into the Special Music School of the St.Petersburg Conservatory at a very young age.
In his teens, Nikita has been a frequent soloist and chamber musician performing across USSR, Europe, Mexico, Central and North America. He was also soloist with orchestras in his hometown including the St.Petesburg Chamber Orchestra.
Nikita came to the United States by the invitation of Victor Rosenbaum, the Director of the Longy School of Music. Upon hearing Nikita’s performance in Russia, Prof. Rosenbaum awarded him a full scholarship to study in Cambridge, Massachusetts where he later received an Artist Diploma.
On the competition circuit, Nikita is a winner of the Valentino Bucchi International Competition in Rome, Italy and as a consequence, concertized across Europe. He also attended and performed as soloist and in chamber ensemble at numerous festivals in the USA including the International Musical Arts Institute in Maine, the Yellow Barn in Vermont and the Colorado Music Festival among others.
His performances has been broadcast on both television and radio including the National Public Radio which was aired nationwide in the USA.
In 2000, Nikita became a founding member of the famed Borealis String Quartet. As the violist in the quartet, he has toured extensively worldwide performing on some of the worlds greatest stages.He has been invited to teach at many well known universities throughout North America, Mexico, Europe and Asia as well as performing for many dignitaries including the Dalai Lama, Desmond Tutu and the Prime Minister of Canada on Parliament Hill for an audience of over 75,000 people. He is also often seen on television in the award winning video, “Beethoven, Allegro Molto”.
